Basically going back to work after a venture went belly up !!
A family member is opening a new spar shop in D12 and has asked me to run it, He wont be there a lot so it will be all down to me.

From hiring staff to putting out the bins, Thats my brief. He is digging me out of a hole as I dont think I would have been his first choice for the job.
I am meeting him later to discuss terms etc. Considering all the above what salary should I pitch for ? Probably involve 60 hrs and early starts and some late finishes. I dont want to push it at the start because he really is doing me a favour, but dont want to start on buttons either.

I would welcome some figures and feedback, Thanks...M

Would want a bit more than 30k for 'running' a spar 60hrs/week!

You can't live comfortably in Dublin on 30k

You'll be putting in more than 60 hours a week and €30k is nowhere enough for that sort of work.

If you think you will be working 60 hours a week ( and it may be more ) then a salary of 30K means you're basically working for not much more than minimum wage.

Retail management salaries do seem to be somewhere in the early 30's, but I suppose that assumes a 35 hour week or so.

    That's what some people earn.

The good going rate for managing a Centra is 30-35K . There's huge difference between how much business different centra's do. Your brother might be decent and let you have 40-45K.

I do know a Polish girl who was managing a very busy city centre centra, and she was only getting paid 23k. She really did get paid that much. It's not against the law to pay crap money -- to someone you can easily push around.

I know a chinese guy who used to work as manager for a busy all night petrol station/Shop -- he was being paid 20K -- what his boss didn't know was he retailing some of his own stock at night.

Just a suggestion but why not negotiate a deal whereby you start off on €30 - 35K then if things work out after 6-12 months or so that yourself and himself can renegotiate a higher salary.

He is helping you, but you might be helping him by hiring someone on a lower salary until things pick up.

Well we had the meeting and we settled on 40k, anything over 60 hrs will be paid double time. thanks all for your input
