Well i live in the middle of nowhere in kerry and all the places near to me are getting upgradesandhigher quaility broadband all the time. But we don't even get asdl.Im on a cable (wireless) but only get 512kbs downand 128kbs up!We're paying €25 for it andit just seems ashame that we could be getting a much quicker asdl service. So does anyone know of a site or somewhere you can ask to see areas that aren't getting broadband?

    Thanks all

    I think it's secret.

There is the NBB scheme map. But it shows people having broadband who have not.

On the other hand, mostly if you are in blank part of map you don't have broadband.

    See

    Thanks for the link Watty.

I sent in an FOI in April for all versions of the NBS maps since they were created. I'm still waiting on them. There have been a good few delays. But all were genuine reasons and I have agreed on extenstions. However the Department still has not put together the latest map and have given providers until August 5th to get their coverage maps into them.

From what I hear though, some providers are less than happy with the way the Department are handling matters.

Also again, the Department are taking the word of these providers as gospel so it'll be up to Joe Public to help derive a real map once the latest one comes out.

If you're getting broadband right now I'd take it for granted you won't get NBS "broadband".

That's what I thought too, sounds like the NetStarter 512 package. I went for Biz 2MB complete with static IP when I had it (though the connection is really 1.5 down and 512k up!). I don't think the 512/128 package is worth it.

Anyway, I'm pretty sure there are some exchanges that will never get ADSL gear. Somehow I doubt the exchange in Fingue, Co. Kerry which serves my parents' house will ever get done.

It's not only whether your exchange has been enabled or not. The quality of the telephone cable is very important. There are thousands of people in Dublin who will never get a 2mb conection as their telephone lines are of a poor quality and can't hold the higher frequency.

There's nothing short of Eircom running brand new shiny copper to peoples houses that can fix this. The wire in kerry is pretty awful. As with much of rural Ireland.

I heard years back that Eircom were planning a major overhall of all their cable throughout the country, to allow as many people as possible high speed data services. This hasn't happened yet
