I’ve sent mates with money to America on 2 occasions to get an i-phone / i-touch and both times they’ve been unsuccessful. I’m going to Thailand in a couple of weeks, is it a good call getting an mp3 over there or will they not work back here?

If you're in Bangkok, a place called Pantip Plaza is a great department store for electronics, computer gear and the like. The MBK mall has a floor (I think) of electronics shops.

Things you buy there *should* work back here (you might need a power adaptor), but if anything goes wrong you'll have no comeback and realistically no warranty. It's the chance you take to save a few quid.

If you find yourself in one of the big dept stores, go to a couple of the shops and be prepared to haggle. Find out what the general 'market price' is and don't be afraid to play them off against each other. Make sure you know the price of things over here for comparison's sake too (ebay and amazon).

Also, beware of anything that seems too cheap and check the contents of any boxes you buy!

    thanks,
would you save a huge amount, like for example how much would an i-touch cost?
and do you know if i-phones can be bought over there?

I'd say you can definitely find an iPhone. There's any amount of phone shops.

No idea what kind of savings you'd be looking at tbh. I did hear that there had been a swing towards that kind of thing being cheaper in the US - a lot of the savings are currency-related.

I was over on a holiday about 2 years ago and looked into getting a camera. In the end I didn't get anything :-)

I found Thailand no cheaper for electronics. I got a motorola bluetooth headset, it was cheaper here by at least 15 euro. but as stopped_clock says it all in the exchange rate.
