Been playing around with HDR (High Dynamic Range) images of late. Early efforts leave a lot to be desired but I'm starting to get a feel for them. A tripod is essential and on my Nikon D70s a little fiddling around is required for best results, bracketing amount and number of shots need to be adjusted although I seem to only have the option of 3 shots - +nEV - EV - -nEV. I understand Canon cameras give better options, true ?

On the software front I've been playing with Photomatix Pro for a little while. I gave up on CS3, it just didn't work for me. Anyone else doing this, what software/hardware do you use ? Any links to your work ?

Mods: I know this is more photography orientated but I'd like to find out if any Mac users here are playing with this and what they use. Move if you think it's better suited elsewhere. Thanks.

Hi Zener they're pretty good for early efforts, don't knock yourself, get them onto some stock photography site and make some money off them. Is that wickla btw? I've been using a range of irish seascape images for a promotion recently and the quality was not near as good as those and those images we're all purchased from a stock photography (a well known one).

Thanks nialler :o , no that's good old Portrane/Donabate in North County Dublin.

Do you use your Mac for anything like this yourself ? I'd highly recommend Photomatix over CS3 for HDRs.

purely cs suite for putting together documents/retouching etc. Have toyed with the idea of getting a DSLR but think selling on my old G5 and getting myself an 24" imac is a bit of a priority at the moment.

Photomatix is great for messing around with images. I got a free copy at last Macworld and it can be fun. Apparently they are releasing a plugin for Aperture (what I use 90% of the time) too. As for the canon and bracketing, it's an option in the menu so it's fairly straightforward.

Now that would be sweet. I use Aperture all the time for my photos too, I like the interface.

I made the switch to Nikon a while back because some friends of mine have some pretty exotic optics for their Nikons that I get to borrow from time to time. My favorite is a 10mm f2.8 and a very fancy 18 - 200 mm zoom with VR image stabilisation built in. They also have one of these which I hope to buy myself soon.

On the Nikon D70s I can only bracket 3 shots whereas on the Canon I believe it's possible to bracket up to 9. Should have listened to 440Hz . . .

    Zener,

    Nice shots.

Other Nikons do support >3 frames for bracketing.

The Sigma 10-20mm and the Nikon DX 18-200 VR are great lenses. Both are terrific pieces of glass.
