Help! I made a transaction with PayPal today, my first - funds were sent to me, all ok - I then sent to someone else, who confirmed they had received payment, all ok. I then got another email saying there was a problem and the payment had been put on *hold*
When I look at the account, it says***Your account access has been limited for the following reason(s):

Jul. 30, 2008: We have observed activity in this account that is unusual or potentially high risk.*** ????????? then Steps to Remove Limitations
To Do Date Limited Required Response Status Action
Jul. 30, 2008 Link and confirm your credit card Waiting for your response
    Jul. 30, 2008
Fax or upload documentation Proof of Address In Progress
    Invoices Waiting for your response

Whats all that about? I sent them a photo of my phone bill, but I don't have a credit card or invoice to show them! Has this happened to anyone else, and does this mean the person I sent the dosh to wont get it till I give them a credit card number? Head is in a tizzy:)

They sometimes do that when you receive money. They want to verify your identity. Easiest is to upload a scan of a bank statement and Passport. For the credit card, you'll still need to wait on the 3V card you ordered.

Give them a ring tomorrow maybe, that's probably better then emailing. Hope it's not too late for that thing you wanted.

Thanks -but will they send the money to the person I'm trying to pay even if I dont have the credit card??? It appears they want three things, credit card, utility bill and an invoice....I've sent the utility bill but dont have the rest,oh gawd....

Did you ring them at all? That's probably the quickest way to get an answer, as nobody else will accurately be able to tell you. Be prepared to be on hold for half an hour though, they are usually quite slow to answer.

Yes I did ring them -some twit girl asked me what I had sold for $160 and I explained the situation to her, she seemed not to understand me and then when I repeated it she got a bit narky and asked me not to repeat myself!!! She said they were onto it, but as yet the payment is sitll *on hold* so it hasn't gone through  It is just floating around in cyberspace........

No idea how long it takes, never had to go through the process. I've seen other posts about this problem though, and the time seems to vary. You're at Paypal's mercy, unfortunately.

Just spoken to a helpful gal at PayPal -apparently if someone sends you money and Ebay is not involved(ie you haven't SOLD something)it is classified as SUSPICIOUS ACTIVITY on your account and all is blocked !!!!:eek:

Well bugger me sideways - I wouldn't have thought that €100 or so would constitute money laundering....but there you are -I explained ad nauseum and she said they would try to release the dosh today.....I thought PayPal was supposed to be simple and easy!!!!

Well now I'm MIGHTILY pissed off -they won't release the money till I have added a credit card:mad::mad::mad:so I'm now not able to buy what I was going to buy, and they have my money that I can't pay:mad:I could weep.......

I clicked the link but it means nothing to me :((

I am so upset I could WAIL -I spoke to someone on Saturday -he said blah blah blah (are they all Norwegian or something) and he said ok, we cannot verify your account till you add a ccard, but we WILL release funds already paid in, i.e. don't bother trying to use PayPal again till till you have added a card.

Fine, great, I then went to Post Office to mail my dogs ashes to this woman who will be making me two glass beads with the ashes in (long story) and I keep getting emails telling me sorry for inconvenience, add credit card. I swear I will never EVER use PayPal again. Still on *temporary hold* She only takes friggin PayPal, is moving house soon, my ashes will get lost,if she gets no money she won't make my beads,by the time she moves and sets up her equipment again it could be MONTHS I really don't know what to do

Smurfing is basically fencing small amounts of money as part of a much bigger laundering operation. Paypal do have watch out for such activity.

Get your self a 3v card. Stick €20 on it and add it to paypal. Problem solved.

I have never heard of if you happen to receive money via paypal unconnected with ebay situation before. I regularly receive funds from people unconnected with ebay without issues.

Well I don't know what is going on then . I applied for a 3v card but I'm still bloody waiting, I had to pay urgently so someone (VERY kindly I might add) SENT me the money into my account, and it was immediately blocked. ??????

Just clicked link again -hang on though, I had only opened account the day before, thinking I could use my Laser cards for funds while waiting for 3v card. Nope. I had money sent to me, converted it into dollars, tried to send it to(from what I can gather) an established seller of goods -why on EARTH would they block the money????

PayPal are doing my HEAD IN. Never, ever , EVER AGAIN. Right, they have now verified all they had to verify, my 3v card came yesterday morning and I gave them details, my account is now A-ok, but the money paid in is still on *hold* and may not be released for a week:eek:
Apparently if I pay in the same amount today and click send, it will go through no problem. Am well and tuly pissed off:(
Quite honestly more hassle than its worth :(

Is this normal:eek::eek: Paypal STILL have not released the funds!! I am sick to death of ringing and emailing them with no result. Thay have had MY money for two weeks, account is verified, but they are still holding on to the money.

When you ring, have you asked to speak to a supervisor? If you can, that would be better than taking to the other reps, who probably can't actually do anything about this.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,647 ✭✭✭dragona

Oh yes, I have, all they say is that a request has been sent to review the case, and it will be done shortly, wait for an email from them. But two weeks is taking the piss. I am livid.

You need to threaten the financial regulator on them.

    I just had this..................
    Dear blah blah,
As we agreed on our recent phone call, here is a summary of the points we
    discussed.

I inform by this email that while we were at the phone together, your case
has been closed. The transaction has been reversed to your PayPal balance.
You can check it in your History on the PayPal website.

If you want to make this payment again, try to do it by another way to
    avoid this problem again.

We do apology again for any inconvenience this situation caused you. Thanks
for your patience and your cooperation.
Please let me know if you need further assistance.
    Sincerely,
    Amélie

So..........I ring agin and a pleasant guy told me to tell seller NOT to send a request but just to send her the money, though it might still be *flagged* as a security thing........and blocked again. What the bloody hell am I supposed to do if she only takes paypal????? Are they telling me NOT to use paypal, as any transaction might be stopped:eek::eek:

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 29,473 ✭✭✭✭Our man in Havana

So has the transaction went thru now?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,647 ✭✭✭dragona

erm I'm scared to send it:( The money is back in my paypal account, but I'm not sure that if I send it to her it wont be be blocked again -also would I click that I'm sending it for goods, or services/other?? I'm toally lost, and very pissed off:mad:

Thanks! Feeling grumpy tonight so doesn't bode well, may try tomorrow....:pWhat a bloody pain in the arse this has been, I will never use paypal again -are there alternatives???And If I try to get the money paid into my bank account and just give up (or get someone else to sort it) how long does that usually take -it says 5-7 days but is that realistic, or is it more like 3 weeks?? I hate them......

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,647 ✭✭✭dragona

Got my money, transferred it to my bank account, and will not be using PayPal again....but during my last whinging phone call to them I asked them to hurry up while talking as the phone calls were costing me an arm and leg....got an email to say they had sent me a *courtesy payment* of €15 for phone calls made! Well I never!! goodbye.................!!
