How to win EBay auction??

    Hi guys

There's an item I'm currently bidding on, which is quite rare and I *must* win. This sort of item probably won't be on ebay (worldwide) for at least another 6 months - 1 year. Anyhow there is just 1 other bidder at the moment in Greece and the auction ends on Saturday at 6pm.

I currently have the highest bid (£71) but we have been going tit-for-tat since around £20. I know he is gonna come back before the end, and try to win at the last minute. I'm not that used to competing in auctions on EBay so is there any way I can definitely win without letting the seller know that I am willing to pay up to £200 ??

    Thanks for any help.

With ebay, if you enter your utmost highest bid, it won't say that's the highest bid. If someone else enters a bid, it tells them they've been outbid, and will keep doing so until they surpass your max bid.

Wait till just before its about to end and put in your €200 bid.

Bidding this far ahead of the auction end will only serve to make other bidders aware that you're interested too. Getting into tit-for-tat bidding this early inflates the price unnecessarily.

There's only one guaranteed way to win. Bid higher than anyone else. If the other bidder is as serious about getting the item as you are, then the real bid-war will only begin when there's less than 5 minutes on the auction.

When there's about 1 minute left on the auction, make a bid and set it to automatically make bids for you up to say 100 quid higher than current bid (or whatever your limit may be). Then hope the other bidders don't beat that bid in the final minute (or 30 seconds if you're willing to risk going that close to the edge).

    Good luck!

Yeah I know, but if I put £200 in now - he might just keep going up by like £10 until he's highest bidder up to maybe £150 or so. Whereas

if I wait until 10 minutes remaining to enter £200 or whatever, there's less chance I will have to pay that amount if you get me.

    Thanks tho

Step 1 - stop bidding immediately. You should not have bid in the first place.
Step 2 - Log on to ebay on Sunday at 17:55
    Step 3 - At 17:59 start bidding.

Use a service like AuctionSniper (look in my sig) you get I think 3 free snipes when you register, also you get free snipes when others register using your link (mine in sig)

The way it works, go to the Auctionsniper website, enter the item number and the max amount you want to bid and the lead time (how many seconds before the acustion ends it will bid), you can set it up at any point. Auction sniper will bid for you.

    Thanks

Bid at the few seconds your maximum, that is the only way. it helps if you have a fast internet connection, keep refreshing screen during last few minutes to check on price.

As mentioned SNIPE!!! never, ever bid before you have to. The only reason to ever bid early is to prevent the auction being pulled early.

Absolutley, I cant stand when idiots start bidding early and drive the price up.

I usually take it as a good sign as it means they don't understand how proxy bidding works and won't have a bid higher or much higher than what's visible.

Easy last minute sniping ftw! ;)

Beware using some automatic auction snipers, you can put in a 'shot' which gets cancelled at the last minute when the sniper program thinks you are not qualified to make a bid according to the auction rules e.g. not being allowed bid on a UK item if you're in Ireland. Has happened to me once or twice, very annoying.

Best bet is to do the "last 15 seconds" sniping yourself, great way to get the heart pumping sometimes :D.

I never bid early. It opens you up to the nibblers and shillers. Sniping is the only way I do it.

I doubt that is the sniper software doing that, it would be ebay themselves, if UK guys say shipping to UK only it will not appear until you go to bid. You should ALWAYS email the seller in advance to get a shipping cost to you, and confirm they will send it etc.

But even then you are not certain to be able to bid, and they might not be able to change their auction. In which case in the past I have changed my ebay details so I appear to be in the UK, so I can place a bid.

If unsure you could always post a very low bid on an auction, and keep your real max for the snipe.
