What's this book called?

I read a book a few years ago in one afternoon, it was that good. For the life of me I don't remember it's title.

It's a true story about a guy who, to avoid shame, makes up a story to his friends and family that he works for the United Nations in Switzerland. By the end of the book, his tissue of lies has gone so far that he becomes a murderer (don't wanna ruin the story)

Book was called "The _______", something like "The Informer" or "The Impostor"

Anyone know it?

I haven't read it, but remember reading a review of it or something.

So trusting in the miraculous powers of google, I've tried searching to find out - but no joy.

Now, I want to know & I haven't even read it!
