I've just seen this movie and I can recommend it to any Mike Mayers fan. And the soundtrack is excellent as well, however I would recommend seeing the movie before listening.

Just one of the piceces of knowledge shared in the film:

    B-e
    L-oving
    O-penhearted
    W-ith
    M-y
    E-motions

I guess we can thank it for the inadvertent result that there'll be no more Austin Powers movies now.

You cannot be serious? You enjoyed The Love Guru? Think you were the only one!

    Metacritic (24 / 100)
    IMDb (3/5 / 10)
    RottenTomatoes.com (15 / 100)

Probably one of the most universally scatched films I've seen in the press this year. Even Aint It Cool News's Harry Knowles (who loves EVERYTHING!) hated it!
Harry says, 'If Shit Got THE LOVE GURU On It, Shit Would Wipe It Off!'

Unfuckingbelievably unspeakably awful. THE LOVE GURU is astonishingly rancid.

    ..

Reviews of this film are nearly universally grotesquely negative - and with good reason. With this film, Myers puts a shotgun in the mouth of comedy and kills it. This isn't merely a bad film, but a painful experience that you keep telling yourself to leave. However, I have a very strong belief in witnessing the terror. People had to survive the Holocaust to hold those responsible, responsible. This film isn't as bad as the Holocaust. Nothing could be. But in the realm of film going experiences - it's a third trimester abortion. It is a pregnant woman smoking a cigarette and drinking a Coors Light.

    ...

I saw THE HAPPENING - it was the film before this that I saw in theaters. It's getting a lot of shit - and make no bones about it, THE HAPPENING is a very bad film. But at least it had a premise - at least it was momentarily compelling in places. This was a painful film experience. Imagine injecting hydrochloric acid into your left teste... or right breast. Imagine following that up with injections throughout your body.

THE LOVE GURU is one of the most inept pathetic terrifyingly awful experiences I've ever suffered through.

    ...

BEWARE - SEE AT YOUR OWN RISK

Haven't seen it but I know a turkey when I see one!

Terrible film! a comedy without any actual comedy! (I managed to watch half of it before deciding I'd rather eat my own head than watch anymore)

There's the door, Mike Myers..... f*ck off through it......

If Knowles had been offered an early prescreening and a goodie bag after then it would more than likely be the defining comedy of 2008.

    I actually enjoyed it :o

Not a masterpiece by any stretch but got a few laughs out of it.

Well, it was exactly what I had expected from the film. Verbal humor, prejudgments, funny songs, pretty women and Mike's stylization.
There are lots of little hints to cheer you up, like the video at the end that is parody to this one.

I have not said that you have to love it. I liked it a lot and I can't wait to see it again. And by the way, the CD with the soundtrack has not left my CD player in my car for more than week :-)

I remember seeing the trailers everywhere when I was in the States back in June and i have to say it looked like alot of the same Austin Powers jokes rehashed. From what I've read since that seems to be exactly the case. I was once interested but will be happy enough to skip it now.

Just a trivia - word PITKA means in Czech language "not-very-rough-name-for-women's-private-body-part".
I hope that was polite enough...

    rofl..

anyway, the love guru is one of the worst movies of all time. despite one sly nod to
    wayne's world
which had me laughing out loud a lot (and made me go get the dvd to watch it), it was just completely unfunny.

i want those 80 minutes back..

This thread has been bestowed with the thread of the day award.
That's the only award that the Love Guru is winning until the next Razzies.

absolutley terrible film, i really expected better from Mike Myers. However, strangley I dont expect anything from an Austin Powers 4 cept maybe peoples oppinion of that series getting even lower. Just happy he isnt going to ruin Waynes World with a sh*t sequel

I haven't seen the movie so I will not post my uninformed opinion on it here. However, have you seen the trailer where Myers' head is superimposed onto a kid's body? Jebus, gave me nightmares. HAS to be one of the creepiest things I've ever seen.......

One thing I will say about the film though. The character names:

    Guru Tugginmypudha
    Guru Satchabigknoba
    Coach Punch Cherkov
etc etc etc. Almost every name is a terrible pun. This worked on Austin Powers (IMO) because it was parodying the bad-pun names in the bond films themselves but this?...... Sad sad
