Im trying to find a laptop for my friend (female), she doesn't a black cased laptop, she want's white, or pink or something different, i've ruled out Dell and she wont use a Mac, so what other options are there that are not going to break like some brands tend to...

oh and it needs to run XP preferably..

Why rule out dell ive had nothing but good experience with them and they're cheaper for me than i can get any where else.

The new inspirions and studios look pretty good and come in a selection of colours.

If you want to spend money look at sony vaios

Sony? There's the CR range, 14.1" screen, and various styles and colours. They're expensive enough though, I think you'd be talking about the €1000 mark.
Why have you ruled out dell? They have those covers where you pick what colour/design you want, dell would certainly be the cheaper optiion.
what would the laptop be used for? Just office apps and web browsing?

can give you the same story about other makes. I got my dell this time last year, used it for hours each day doing heavy office apps, internet and other small apps and never had a single problem. Only thing i ever done was upgrade the RAM but that was just me.

The new dell studios look good and have colour schemes which look cool. Good performance.

    Sony will be expensive.

yeah sony laptops are overpriced - you really pay for the brand and the styling.
Dell laptops look really good and you get far more bang for your buck.

HP Pavillion Special Edition Series (white) dv6700t

Have the dv6500t from yesteryear, from the back of the lid to the keyboard its just pretty. And the keyboard can not be beat. Good webcam too

shopping online might not be an option but it should be available somewheres like PC world

I have one of these (6799ea)
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B1LKN5ybsDc

You can pick them up for about 900 on Dabs, or 1000 in retain in Dublin. Comes with a really precision Wireless Laser Mouse (Far better than optical mice) a simple carry case, MS Works, The Sims, and a cleaning cloth as it's special edition. The keyboard is very very very nice to use, feels very glossy and the best thing I have ever typed on. 2GB Ram T8100 CPU, 250GB HD, Bluetooth. Lightscribe, Wireless, dedicated graphics, webcam, card reader, remote control 15.4 screen.
