I've read all the generic information you find in the course guides, but I want to know what the course is really like from the current participants and graduates
Are there any real job oppertunities and what does the course really entail

This reply might be a bit to late but....

It depends on who you ask. A lot of people find the course to be a great oppertunity (me included) whilst others seem to see it as a waste of time. I'm currently going into my 3rd (and final) year. I was talking to someone in a class below me a few months ago and he/she said that they hated the course cuz they didn't learn anything or do much etc.

This course DOES give you what you need for this business, but you have to do a lot of work yourself as well. This person in question seemed to just want to sit bac and have everything spoon fed to them. The lecturers do as much as they can, but you have to do stuff yourself as well; and what I mean by this is just to get a camcorder and make or short film with some friends or classmates. It doesn't have to be anything epic, but you'd be surprised at how much it helps.

As for job prospects; Galway is a great place for the Film/TV industry. What with TG4, Solas Studios, Telegael, Magma and Power Pictures amongst many others, there's plenty of oppertunities after you graduate.

The classes are small (around 30 in the entire year) but this makes for a good comradery as everyone knows everyone (lecturers included) where as in a course like Arts, you'd just be another face in the crowd.

I think it's a great course if you have a strong interest in Film/TV. Just make sure you do your own little projects outside of college!
