Best, most portable laptop

    Hi guys,

I'm looking for as lightweight a laptop as possible. I was looking at the Air Macbook but not sure it'll be powerful enough for what I'd be using it for. However the ordinary Macbooks are heavy as anything for carrying around!!! and i carry enough around as it is soooo........

I'd be using the laptop to watch and edit (in the simplest form of the word) vids I make with a discgo camera\mobile phone of dance rehearsals, might want to edit down music videos I'll be downloading from the net to isolate dance moves.

Will also be using the laptop to process about 120 gigs of music through Music Maker\Numark "Library" software for bpm analysis, dynamic changes etc so I can use it with my Numark D2 director and cm mixer for djing. Please note I have no immediate plans to dj using my laptop alone. the numark will take care of that once the music is all processed.

Also the usual, emailing, surfing, shopping etc. Any suggestions??? I don't mind about the actual size or dimensions (although more that 12" screen would be nice) my main concerns are that it's lightweight and it can do the things listed above.

As usual any feedback would be greatly appreciated and I will mentally send you an imaginary choc ice.

    Thanks,
    Sian

I would have a look at the Toshiba Portege.... http://www.laptopsdirect.ie/Portege_R500_Laptops/prod.asp

Dell m1330 is definitely an option to consider, lightweight, yet not too small with a 13.3" screen. What kind of budget do you have? If your budget is tight i'd recommend the dell vostro 1310, same screen size and very reasonable spec for the money.

Thanks guys, had a look at the toshiba but it's only as powerful as the air macbook it seems and is only 11 " etc. Will check out the dell though. Am leaning a bit towards getting a macbook now and maybe getting one of those little dinky Advent, Asus or Acer 10" laptops to carry around for checkin email, writing word docs and surfing internet. I've been warned though if I do a word doc on the advent that I'll have an awful time gettin it onto the Macbook.

Also I've been analysing my music files using Media Maker. Will I be able to continue doing this on a Macbook.

Otherwise I might go for the new Sony z or sz series. Seem pretty powerful and also start at weighing just 3.3lbs. Hmmmm. Also looking at the hp compaq 6910p Business notebook. Decisions Decisions. Budget wise I'd say max 1,600 or thereabouts
