Anyone here got a 230.4 or know someone with one? I need to know whats the ballast resistor set up for the coil on them is.
The brackets attached to the resistor are colour coded to show the resistance.I think mine has the resistor from a 230.6 (red bracket)on it plus another spurious resistor thats been disconnected. Any websites I've checked show 2 resistors for the 230.4 with blue and silver brackets

My Merc has developed an intermittent misfire which only happens on the road, its ok when idling and revving it at standstill.
I've changed plugs, leads, condensor, points, cap and rotor arm and set up the timing, done a compression check which shows 140-150 across the 4 cylinders.
so I'm thinking coil or perhaps an air leak. I don't think its the fuel pump as the car doesn't die like it has fuel starvation.

Hi blue, i did have a 230.6, but im afraid i'd be well out of my depth with your query.

I'd recommend Benjamin Lichtenberg at http://lichtenberg-classics.ie though, he might be able to help you out.

It's a carb, right? Have you checked the oil in the float chamber?

(Had an issue with jerky progress one time, checked everything... then noticed for some unknown reason the carb needle gizmo was loose and not a lot of oil in there...)

If it's the coil the bad running will be more common when the engine is hot - it may run fine for a few miles after initial start up then get jerky/cut out when up to temperature.

Having a Triumph 2000 as well, the first thing I thought was the Stromberg carb, the diaphragm seens ok, but i've a new one orderd for it anyhow, and the oil level is fine and its the correct ATF fluid for my carb.
