    Can anyone recommend any good books on chess?

    I've been playing a few yeas but not a very high level

    Your going to have to be a little more specific about what kind of book you want. Chess books tend to be either extremely specific or extremely basic. In other words the books tend to have detailed analysis of all lines of a certain opening or they tend to be "Chess for Dummies".

    If you want to play more chess though I'd suggest signing up to the league

    I found this one to be the best when I was a beginner, and it can be used at many different levels. Ie you can simply enjoy the main games or you can get into the indepth side analysis if you want to.

    Ray Keane has the type of book you're looking for. I can't remember the name of it exactly, but it starts out from the very basics and manages to give you a good understanding of some vital concepts in chess and basic opening lines. It's a little blue book, about the size of a copybook, and it has a general name like "Chess pocket book" or something similar.
