Sony Vaoi Hard Drive

    Hi guys,

I've been asked to help a friend with a laptop repair. The hard drive died a horrible death! I'm relatively good with desktop stuff, but this is my first attempt at a laptop.

Her laptop is a Vaio PCG7MIM, which shows up on the Sony support site as a VGN-FS515H. The existing hard drive is a Hitachi Travelstar HTS421280H9AT00.

I emailed the online shop I usually buy from regarding a replacement drive to ask about interface/dimensions of drive etc and they informed me that the specs for the drive I had chosen to buy should be "similar if not the same" to the original drive. So I ordered the drive and when it came the interface was completely different.

I phoned Sony then to get the details I needed. They were clueless told me they'd have to phone me back with the information as soon as they got it themselves. After 10 days (and three phonecalls in between to update me on their own progress LOL) they eventually told me the interface I need is "ultra ata / 100".

But now I'm confused as hell! Ultra ATA, UDMA, Parallel ATA etc. Which drive do I get? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

    Jules.

p.s. This is the one I'm looking at.
