This looks interesting. I wonder how it compares to the BHS version. Its nice to have a book tailored towards Irish horse owners.
New Horse Ownership Manual launched by Teagasc

A new comprehensive brochure entitled ‘Horse Ownership – a general guide for the first time horse and pony owner’ was launched by Teagasc Director Professor Gerry Boyle at the Teagasc Kildalton College which runs specialist equine courses.

Head of Rural Development in Teagasc, Gerry Scully said; ”This new brochure encompasses everything from buying your horse or pony, to appropriate facilities, care and handling, foot care, general horse health and advice on tack, riding out and traveling and loading your horse or pony. It is hoped that this publication will provide maiden owners with the basic knowledge to begin the adventure of horse ownership on the correct footing.”

Compiled by the Teagasc Equine Advisory team, the brochure evolved in response to a request from Horse Sport Ireland for a publication to meet the requirements of the growing number of first time horse and pony owners. It is full of useful tips and information which should be understood by all those embarking on the journey of horse ownership.

Gerry Scully invited anyone interested in getting a copy to visit the Teagasc stand in the main hall at the upcoming RDS Dublin Horse Show.

Looking forward to seeing what it will be like. I hope they don't skimp on photo diagrams.

Sounds very good, would love to get my hands on a copy. Its well needed in the horse industry over here, especially with the recent (now sadly dead) economic boom and people buy horses and not being able to care for them or knowing what is going on with their horse!

To be fair, the BHS one is excellent and there was nothing stopping them buying it.

Oh I know, but its nice to have an Irish specific one too, as the BHS really wouldn't advertise it over here like Teagasc would and as a result the people here would know about it and probably go look for it.

The Teagasc press release referred to a 'brochure' - the BHS have a 'manual'. Hopefully its just a difference in terminology and not content. We'll see next week.
