Wedding Music

    Hi,

I am getting married in France and have a French band and DJ who don't have an idea of any Irish music. The wedding party is going to be pretty old so need to give the dj some music. I'm pretty ok on more modern music but was just wondering if anyone has any more traditional music ideas.

I am mainly looking for music the older people would recognise such as songs like "the red rose cafe".

Thanks for any help and suggestions.

I don't know how accurate this is but I was given a list by a musician of the top most requested Irish favourites (this was given to me in the context of older Irish people at a wedding so might be of some use!) and here it is:

    Danny Boy/Londonderry Air (why?)
    Rose of Tralee
    Galway Bay
    Spinning Wheel
Believe me if all those Endearing Young Charms
    Last Rose of Summer
    The Coolin
    Carrickfergus
    Sally Gardens
    The Mountains of Mourne

I would also add Eileen Aroon,
    Molly Malone
Harp that Once through Tara's Halls
    Galway Shawl
    The Black Velvet Band

I have a more extensive list of 100 songs (most of which I've never even heard of) so let me know if you need more!

    Also Christy Moore!

What about the siege of ennis? I've found that I get very few request for trad/irish stuff at the weddings I Dj at but I always have some just in case. Maybe 'cos most of my work is within the pale:p

Perhaps instead of starting a new thread i'll just continue on from this.
I'm getting married in Krakow in September and the DJ/Band have asked me if their's any traditional Irish songs they want to be played at the wedding (CD not covers by the Polish band). I obviously know the popular stuff, Christy Moore, the Wolfetones/Dubliners etc... something that'll be good for a singsong for a while. There's 70 Irish travelling so i'd like to keep them happy.

If anyone could recommend any traditional Irish bands/artists or any songs in particular i'd be grateful? :)
