Hi Guys, My brother in law has an Acer laptop thats about 6 mths old, for some reason the DVD drive has not worked for the last few weeks, It's not showing up in "My Computer" or "Device Manager". Or when you insert a disk (the trat will open and close as normal) Can anybody throw some light on what the problem might be. Thank you in advance

Check the BIOS, see if it's showing up in there.

Thank you for your reply, I've looked in the Bios, but I cant find it under the "Information" tab or the "Main" tab or the "Boot" tab. Or should I be looking somewhere else in the Bios?

In "Boot" it shud be listed with the hard drive etc but that doesn't mean its present.
Better to see if its listed in the hardware device manager in Windows. control panel-->Hardware-->device manager. I think thats correct.
