    Hi All,

I have an HP omnibook 6000 laptop with win XP. Recently an intermittened problem started to occur that I cannot solve.

The letter j will appear anywhere in word, web search engine, excel etc without warning. The laptop will start to beep and j will race across the screen.

I have checked the key itself and cannot see a specific problem. Could it be something to do with the motherboard?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated?

    How do I do that?

Where can I find a step-by-step instruction on how to post threads?

can you provide a screenshot? Is it appearing when you are typing or say is it appearing spontaneously at random spots? Word documents? News Articles? Desktop?

Yes, it appears spontaneously at random spots just like you said in Word documents, News Articles, search engines ... pretty much anwhere I can type information.

I do not have to be typing for it to start eg if I turn on the laptop and open IE and select the google search engine 'j' will start appearing in it eg jjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjj

I tried to do a screenshot but typical intermittened technology problem it has been working ok yesterday and today.

well that rules out a graphic-card issue: thats a good thing.

Sounds like the sensor on the J key is loose/stuck/hypersensitive. Have you tried prying the offending key off yet? Do it carefully..

Other than that right click on My Computer and select Properties; then enter the device manager under the hardware tab. Does the Keyboard device show as funtioning properly?

I have taken off the 'j' key but I don't see anything obvious wrong with it. I also checked the hardware profile and everything is working correctly.

The mouse pad on the laptop is now acting up with the cursor moving to the lower left hand corner of the screen and staying there. This only way to solve this is to connect a mouse to the laptop. Not sure if this is all part of the same problem?

does this happen when the laptop is on battery power or at all times? It could relate to a charger fault.

The laptop won't power off the battery as there is some fault with it (it suddenly stopped running on battery about 6 months ago, I replaced the battery with a new 1 but it had no effect).

I have to run it off the mains all the time now, could this be the problem?
