so i'm currently on social welfare being collected in the post office.
i started a new job today, investment accounting so thats good.
i'm getting paid for the first time 4 weeks from now.

do i sign of and have zero money, and zero access to money from either from banks, friends or family.. i'm in debt to all 3.

or do i sign of just before i get my first paycheck so i can survive for the next month?

the first option isn't really an option to be honest... i wont have money for rent, food or bus to work. is the second option illegal? can i still be signed on till my first paycheck?

if anyone calls me scabby or anything, you've never been in my predicament or understand the severity of my situation.. its ironic that i could survive grand without a job but now that i have one, i could be left for a month with zero income.

    what do i do?

It is an offence to sign on and collect money when you are in employment.

Revenue pass on records of people who work and sign - so Social Welfare will find out that you have worked and signed. It's possible that you could be prosecuted - not something that would look good in your new line of work.

Would it not be possible to borrow some money from family or friends until you get your first pay cheque? I know this is not what you want to hear, but unfortunately it's really your only option. What about a credit union or bank loan? Could your new employers give you an advance on your first month's salary? Think about it, why should the State pay you an unemployment payment, when you are in full time employment?

I have been there, and understand that it is difficult waiting for that first month's salary, but you are only setting yourself up for future difficulties.

Your local community welfare officer might be able to help you, thay do have a scheme called "pending wages" otherwise you will be committing fraud.

Are you sure this exists? Do you have a link?
I don't get why they'd make a social welfare payment to someone who has a salary on the way.

because until you get that salary, you have no money?

Yeah you don't physically have money in your hand, but you are earning it and that is the basis upon which social welfare dole payments work.

Go to Your local community welfare officer, they will give you something to tide you over pending receipt of your wage, Do not sign on!!!! you will get into big problems if you do

almost every job is payment in arrears, it's a bummer that you only get paid once a month. however, you cannot work and stay on the register, you'll have to sign off.

go to the local health centre and tell the CWO your problem and see what he or she can do for you

This may come across as unhelpful OP but it could have been worse.
Many people start jobs but they miss the monthly cut-off for payroll on their start date and have to wait 7 weeks to get paid.

As others have said, go to the CWO
