what does this mean? adjacent/non adj ??

hey sorry if i sound silly but im just trying to see if i am entitled to a grant or not..... when it says adjacent rate, and non adjacent rate, what is meant by this???

It's teh distance you are from home to college. Can't remember off hand what they are exactly though, but I think if you are within 15 or 16 miles it's adjacent, further than that it's non-adjacent.

Yeah I think last year or so they went metric

It's now 24 kilometres from the college, however it's worth keeping in mind that mature students (independent or dependent) automatically qualify for the 'non-adjacent' rate.

The adjacent rate of maintenance grant is payable where the student lives 24 kilometres or less from the college he/she plans to attend. The non-adjacent rate applies to everyone else, including all mature students both dependent and independent.
