Anyone have any experience of using these? I'm having major problems with a 1 year old Dell C521. Results below from the test:

    Test Option: EXTENDED TEST
    Model Number:
    WDC WD25 00JS-75NCB3
    Unit Serial Number:
    N/A
    Firmware Number:
    10.0
    Capacity:
    250.00 GB
    SMART Status: Not Available
    Test Result:
    FAIL
    Test Error Code:
08-Error was detected while repairing bad sectors.
    Test Time:
    13:39:42, July 29, 2008

It then says there are errors trying to repair it

Dell are saying that there is a problem with the drivers. Looks like I need a new HD imo. My one year warranty ran out at the start of July!!!

that usually means the HD has failed.

cant see anyway around this than to replace it.

if your warranty is up dont know what else you can do.

the thing is Dell's bloody hard drive utility is passing and it definitely happened before the year was up. Unfortunately I didn't report it till after the year was up.

I've been trying to fix the bloody pc for 5 weeks now. I must have reformatted it about 7 times at this stage. It takes about 30 minutes to transfer one gig of music from an external hard drive to the pc and it is impossible to run more than one application.

Go to the dell site,, go to support and enter your service tag. Pull down all the updates. If you are still having problems then you can ring back dell and let them know that its not a driver problem, but an actual hard drive dying. Which from experience using that tool means the drive is about to die, so backup all of the data you need form it now if possible. Or it could just be a unrecoverable bad sector on the drive. Try lolo's drive medic to see if you get the same error. Also, these drives only have a max operation temp of 55c. Check the temp log to see if it has ever gone over this.

thanks Anti, yeah I've done that and downloaded every driver on the page.

The Indian lady I am dealing with is insisting it is a windows problem as it is passing the dell test. Hopefully when they see the results of the test they'll give in and send me a new hard drive.

Otherwise I'll just buy one, I'll just be glad to get it sorted!

where would I get that lolo's drive medic?
