Don't really game anymore so i don't have really any interest in new releases. However i have a few older games HL2,COD4,BF2 that i kept.I have a new PC Vista but i can't seem to load up HL2 or COD4.Is it because i am running Vista?Had a look at the requirements and only XP was out at the time.Do i need to download patches etc or are they obsolete?
    Cheers, ****egamer;)

You'll need to be more specific. I have a vista machine running HL2, COD4 no bother.

I can confirm that HL2 works fine in Vista. As far as I remember the others work fine too. You might need to install a few updates for HL2 but steam should handle that all automatically for you.

COD4 was released a long time after Vista, it even has DX10 support.

It works great in Vista. Same for HL2 and all Steam games i imagine.

I've got that error for all games listed in steam before.
Restarting steam fixed it for me.
If that doesn't work go to the properties of the game and then to the updates tab and change change the setting that says "always keep this game up to date" so it doesn't try to update it.

Did you download hl2 or install it from a disc?
