I assume the basic digital package is cheaper than analogue because you can only view the digital channels in one room
but as the analogue signal is coming from the same source, i can split the signal, and watch analogue tv in different rooms so its a good deal
but does anyone know how long NTL will continue to send both signals down the same line?
    :pac:

I'd say a few more years yet. Once Digital value (20 euro) is more popular than analogue. I would think they will switch off analogue. I would imagine they have a date in mind but it hasn't been released yet.

Analog cable is still good for multiroom so it might be here for a while.

It seems to be a great deal so and the digital upgrade is free if you upgrade on line or €25 over the phone. They weren't to quick to tell me that over the phone.Once people realise that digital is cheaper and you get more channels they won't be long changing. But I don't understand why there isn't some multilingual channels included i'm trying to learn spanish it would be great if i could see even the news in spanish rather then having to go to the computer.

UPC need to shut down their analogue services soon, particularly if they want to roll out more broadband and expand their digital TV offering with more channels and services like On Demand etc..

They're trying to push everyone onto digital a.s.a.p.

Cork was a bit of a no brainer, as they had to have set top boxes for analogue TV, it was just a case of swapping the boxes then shutting off analogue. The end user's experience was greatly enhanced as the analogue boxes were absolutely terrible pieces of 1970s technology that tended to degrade pictures.

Selling the advantages of digital TV to basic cable customers elsewhere is tougher as they're used to the flexibility of multiroom viewing and hooking up VCRs etc.

The DVR box goes a long way towards solving this problem as it means that you don't need a VCR / DVD-R. In fact, it's a far nicer solution and easier to use.

I'd say you'll find they'll start to gradually shrink the analogue packages bit by bit until you're down to just the 4 terrestrial channels. At that stage, they'll withdraw the product.
