Laser in America...help!!!

    Just wondering if my laser card will work in the US going next week to LA,Vegas,Grand Canyon, san Diego etc....so just wondering will it work over there or am I going to have to sort out a credit card

    If you card just says 'laser' and don't have any other symbols on it then I'm sorry but it probably won't work.

    Are you sure that it isn't a Maestro card ?

    maestro & cirrus will be just fine. Maestro is an International debit card.

    WARNING : It's a debit and not a credit card. This means that when you need to give a deposit to a hotel/car rental company then the money actually leaves your account. Normally with a credit card the amount is preauthorized to make sure the card is valid but no money is actually transferred.
    The problem is that when you leave the hotel/give the car back, it can take up to 10 days for the money to be returned to your account.

    Also a number of places won't accept your card for payments but you'll always be able to withdraw from ATM's.

    You can definitely use it in ATMs but in hotels and restaurants,etc it may not be widely accepted.

    Yep works in ATM's used mine in Vegas last November.

    Unfortunately it doesn't help you on the Blackjack tables though ;)

    Laser cards do not work anywhere outside of Ireland, for anything, at all, ever.

    If you have a Maestro/ Cirrus/ Visa card then you will be able to use the card elswhere.

    If there is a maestro/cirrus written anywhere on your laser card then the only thing you will be able to do is withdraw cash from an ATM......full stop, nothing else.
    Your bank back home here will charge your account for that privilage, but talk to them first, they might have agreements with other banks in the US. Whatever you do dont withdraw cash from an ATM say in a petrol station or a shop over there as they are not secure and also will charge you a premium for using their facilities up to 10% of your withdrawal.

    Incorrect. Maestro is accepted by some countries and some retailers to pay for goods/services. Maestro work in France but not in Cube for example, ok in USA but not in Spain.

    I was in the States for 3 weeks this month and saw Maestro signs at our hotel at Grand Canyon and Vegas.
