Some people on here might be interested in a ‘beginner-focussed’ triathlon in August. “The Heritage Challenge” is promoted by the Heritage Hotel Group and runs between their two properties in Laois (Portlaoise and Killenard). Trilogy Triathlon, the local club in Laois, will be there to help out with the organisation (Trilogy Triathlon are also involved with TriAthy).

The event is a 440m swim (in a pool), a 19km cycle from Portlaoise to Killenard, and a 5km out-and-back run. Theres usually tea, sandwiches and prize-giving / results after.

Also, if you are a novice (i.e. in your first year of triathlon), you can compete for the novice prizes (1,2,3, Ladies and Gents).

Entry is just €19 for a senior or novice individual, or €30 for a relay team (of 2 or 3).

Click the link below for more information about the race and links for how to enter online.

im thinking of doing it as i am going to be in that neck of the woods Saturday. What time does it start? Also what are the novice entry requirements? I've done 1 last yr but this is my first "season" as they call it? Also what time does it start?

Also the entry on the website says 2007?

It says on the website that novice is someone competing their first tri in 2007. (I think this should be 2008). If you did a triathlon last year then you wouldn’t be a novice.

I was speaking with one of the lads who are organising it, and there should be a race pack with all the time information in it later tonight or tomorrow. I was told that registration will be before 8 in Killenard. There are also still some places left.

i found somewhere on the site something about 1pm which seemed strange. that unfortunately would be too late for me. although 8am would be perfect

Did this go ahead does anyone know? I woke up this morning to head off for registration, opened my front door to see my garden under 6 inches of water with no chance of getting my car out the road and so went back to bed. That's my second attempt at my first triathalon thwarted by the weather this year (the other one being the Focus Ireland where the swim was cancelled). I am hoping to do Tramore and Loughrea so hopefully by the end of the summer I will get to do my first triathalon (albeit a sprint distance).
