Hi..i applied for the jobseekers benefit as i have a few hours a month work, never anything more than two days a week. that was in june. they sent me a letter last week with a form that had been completed incorrectly by my employer, so im assuming that since it took them 6weeks to notice that its prob gonna take 6more to actually send me any dole money. im totally skint and have applied for every job going in the city. anyone living in galway knows how tough it is to get work right now. anyway i am going back to college in sept and worried i wont have any money, can the social welfare give me some sort of advance? and if i go to them i sept to tell them about college will they still backdate me from june?

Yeah they can give you an advance. I got one of the community support officer over Aldi in westside wed-fri 11am-1pm (i think). Call citizens advice to find out who deals with your catchment area.
And when you go bring every shred of paper with you...but only take it out and show it to them if they ask.

I got a cheque same day which i could cash in post office 5mins later

The Community welfare officer doesn't pay everybody while they are waiting for thier dole and because your working a bit the CWO might not pay at all.

CWO can pay you the diff of what you get paid and 197 euro, so you get 197 euro less income from yr part time job
