Looks like his new album has leaked. What do people think of it? It certainly seems more simple and folksy than even Lifted or the Story is in the Soil. Not too impressed with it yet tbh. The lyrics are a little disapointing for him, following the worrying trend that the last album started. Having said that Get-well-cards is savage

I agree that Digital Ash is a great album, better than I'm awake it's morning but didn't those two come out at the exact same time? As for Cassadaga, Hot Knives, Four Winds, I must belong somewhere and the first song once it kicks in are the only things that live up to his previous three albums.

    And Brakeman!

It did come out at the same time as some album bt i always get his releases confused. Listened to his Selt titled today or half of it.

Hasn't done it for me yet, maybe it will.... Get Well Cards was class though...

yup didn't digital ash come out a week before? that's what i was basing my statement on.

also just realised in called "i'm wide awake it's morning" a "road to joy", i was sleepy :o

From what I've heard I think its decent enough. I cant compare it to Bright Eyes too much, as never listened to much of that stuff. ally like the song Lenders to the TEmple, prob my fav on what I've heard. Look forward to seeing this stuff though at the Picnic!

I'm Wide Awake It's Morning is an essential album I think. The rest are good, but filler is evident. I heard the leaked stuff, and I'm not so sure I like it yet.

I can't overstate how much everyone should own I'm Wide Awake... but, you'll get it for a tenner now too. G'wan.

No way. I just looked at the track list from all his albums. I'm Wide Awake is alot of mushy nonsense in places. I'd choose Fevers and Mirrors and Lifted over it ever time. Take Lua, Land Locked Blues and Ode to Joy out of it and i don't think i'd listen to it.

    Lifted ftw i think.

I agree that fevers and mirrors is much better than I'm wide awake but it's a lot less accesible than it. Lifted couldn't be any less easy to get into. If somebody who had never heard Bright Eyes wanted an album I'd direct them to I'm Wide Awake every time because it's an album that virtually everybody likes. Yes it has a few mushy bits (singles Lua and First Day guilty as charged) but it also has moments of brilliance like Old Soul Song, Land Locked Blues and Road to Joy. It's the perfect intro to any fan.

Also, It's much better than lifted. That's a real patchy album, a few great songs, a lot of terrible ones. Digital Ash and Fevers are the best by far. Two 5 stars

I'm Wide Awake.... is definately his most accessible. Absolutely love that album and can't stop listening to Old Soul Song (For The New World Order).

He's playing The Limelight in Belfast August 30th

My faves are Letting off the Happiness and Lifted. Really like I'm Wide Awake... as well.
I doubt we'll be getting a greatest hits set at the picnic, though.

Fevers and Mirrors for me by a mile. 'Something Vague' is my number 1 Bright Eyes tune.

What is the actual release date for the new album? Came across a review sometime last few days. Looking forward to giving it a listen. Fevers and Lifted are probably my two favourites. Wide Awake clearly the most accessible album to date.

    edit: he is playing EP?

Haven't listened to the full thing through yet. It's definitly more mainstream folk sounding. As for previous album. I like cassadega a lot but after listening to "I'm wide awake" again I realized its a far better album
