Wall ties for stone

What type of wall ties should be used between blockwork and external stone (for a front porch). Have heard that expanding metal should not be used? Would normal twist ties without the plastic star clamp for insulation do the job?

Stainless Steel wall ties - 2.5 ties per sq.m, 900mm max on the horiz, 450mm max vertical and 225mm vertical centres around opes.
Standard wall ties should be sufficient, as long as they are fully bedded in during courses being built up.
You are right though - expamet is a no-no.

Hi does anyone know why expanding metal should not be used? I'm building at the moment and I was just speaking with my Stonemason this evening and he has asked me to get a roll of 6 inch expanding metal for the blocks.

It's 6 inch stone and he has said 4 inches of expanding metal between every third block?

    Would wall ties be better?

I'm curious on this as well any stone I've seen done near me seems to always use expanded metal

    The theory is..

You get a roll of galv mesh. Each piece of mesh has to be cut - exposing bare steel with will rust and over time become weakened

Or so I read here I think
