    Hei ..

I was reading in "What Digital Camera" a review of the 40D .. and people
were saying the LCD display is not great... now i know it matters more if
the photo looks good once uploaded... but I like to be able to check the IQ
with the LCD on site so to speak ..

as regards the 400D (which for me has an excellent LCD) what's it like ?

my friend has a 30D and i think the LCD on that is terrible ... mind you it could
be just his one ..it's old and dirty .. so .. anyway let me know how the 40D looks compared to 400d..

As someone new to the 40D, tbh it's not great quality wise.

I moved from the 20D and when I sold it couldn't believe it was so small. The screen is a lot bigger but the quality isn't.

Still, cracking camera though and worth the upgrade.

    T.

The LCD on the 450D is excellent.:)

I think the 40D lcd is pretty ok tbh, suits me fine. It's a 3 inch is it not? Only prob is if its very bright out it's hard to get a good look at what you've taken but with the camera turned away from direct sunlight the problem is rectified.

the thing that lets them down is the lack of resolution, I use an Epson P3000 to have a look at work while I am on site because the Canon screen is crap, for the next gen cameras from Canon they really need to work on them.

Is there a diff between the 40D and the 450D screen?

Sounds like it someone says the 450D is excellent
and someone says the 40D is crap...I can't see how canon could make a mistake like this?or were they making them cheaper to keep the price down?

Well the 450D was made after the 40D so maybe thats why it's better?

yeah could be!maybe they noticed the mistake and made different lcd screens

If I were guessing, I'd say that the 40D either shares the LCD display with either the 400D or 450D, and seeing as people find those fine, then they might be happy with the 40D. You don't know what the complainers are comparing it to, that's the problem. I found it fine when I used the 40D, but I'm coming from a 350D, so it's an improvement. I just briefly glance at it anyway to see if the shot is composed and exposed correctly, and that's it. Wouldn't put me off the camera in the least.

LCD on the 40D is okay in my experience; however I make no final decisions about the photos until they are on a computer screen. I very rarely look at the LCD>

The 450 has a bigger screen (three inch).I think the 40D has the same size screen at the 400D. But I've never seen a bad word about the 40D. Sounds like a great camera.

40D is a cracking camera with nice features.

LCD display is somewhat of a disappointment but to be honest the only way is for you to take a picture and look for yourself. Then decide if it is something you can live with or without!!

Is there a diff between the 40D and the 450D screen?

both have a 3inch screen with 230,000 pixels. So whatever other differences there might be , theres none in terms of resolution.

Heres the 40D specs from dpreview

I have a 40d , and as other posters have said , I use it for a quick review , of exposure mostly.

As always, the Canon.ie website is useful to compare camera bodies.

The 1D MkIII, 40d and 450D all use the same screen - 3.0" TFT, approx. 230K dots.

If thats the case then I find the screen excellent so the people complaining about the 40D I don't understand, sure it's very hard to see in the sun but also being a PSP owner I'm well used to that!
