MacBook Pro ram question

I have a 2007 model MacBook Pro 2.33GHz with 2GB ram. I know the machine can support 3GB and I want to upgrade. I'm using both memory slots at the moment. If I was to buy this 2GB stick from crucial and replace one of the 1GB sticks I already have would the performance be effected? I'm adding an extra GB of memory but it's not going to be a matched pair. One will be the original 1Gb stick and the other will be this new 2GB stick. Will this effect speed? Is there any point in upgrading the memory?

Should be fine, there is no need to run 2 identical sticks. You should get a nice performance boost.

Im NOT a big mac fan so im not 100% sure. Will move this to the mac forum so you can be sure.

Yes, your Mac runs better with matched pairs of RAM, but it will run a lot worse than that if it doesn't have enough RAM for your needs.

If you haven't already, download a memory usage meter app like the excellent Menumeters and, if you find that you are maxing out the current 2GB, you'll probably gain more advantage in having 3GB than you'll lose in having non-matched RAM pairs.

Under "About this Mac " > More Info > Hardware check the Bus Speed. If it's 800MHz then there's a good chance your machine takes 4GB of RAM max. If it's 667MHz then it's 3GB.
