Just following on from the ''Sniper One'' thread.

What books can you recommend? I'm speaking about books from a Soldiers point of view. Name the title and a description.

Off hand, just finished Legionnaire by Simon Murray, its about his time in the Legion and a diary on his experiences.

Loved that book. So well written and down to earth about his experiences.

Any of the Cornelius Ryan books are good as they're told mostly through soldiers experience with the author sketching in the strategic situations at the time.

    Would recommend The Longest Day.

Reading Hidden Soldier by Padraig O'Keefe now. Excellent Book, hard to put down. He joins the Frech Foreign Legion and serves in Cambodia, Bosnia eventually leaving and becoming a private security contractor in Iraq. Recommend it:)

"One Soldiers War in Chechnya" by Arkady Babchenko....fascinanting insight into the war in Chechnya from a Russian conscripts viewpoint.

"My War Gone By I Miss it So" By Antony lloyd...brilliant book about a feckless layabout's transformation (by the balkan conflict)into one of the best war reporters of his generation...

    Have read so far

The Green Marine, Very good, easy to read, irish lad too.

Sniper one, Hard to put this one down, lots of action and killing insurgants and good insight to the things the newsreaders dont tell you

Hidden Soldier: V good, From the FFL training camp to private security contractor in Iraq, one hell of a firefight towards the end that will have you playing out the scene in your head as you read it.

Just started 3 para, its about a para regiment in Afghanistan in 2006, seems good so far but havnt had any action yet.
I also bought the Lebanon Diaries and cant wait to get stuck into that one, will post a report on both when i finish each.

    Just finished reading "killer Elite"

"Reveals the 25-year history of a top-secret US Army special operations unit. 'The Activity.' The story follows this unit on operations from the rescue of General James Dozier from the Italian Red Brigades to the capture of Saddam Hussein, and the assassination of key members of al Qa'eda."

Brillant read, could not leave it down for the two weeks on the beach in Hawaii.
