If you are going to use it for poker I would suggest Toshiba U300-13.
    Lovely laptop.
Comes with XP Pro or vista.
Very Very light for holding in your laptop while playing
    Comes with 2G ram
    Built in web camera
    Very good graphics card
Have one for 8 months now with XP Pro on it. Not one problem yet.
Playing poker online with it is great very light to hold in your lap and very fast 2g in it.
Also the nicest laptop out there.

    Price : Under € 1000

Don't buy Dell. Your wasting your money. Always break. Especially the keyboards.

Dell XPS are great laptops for playing poker, mine has Vista and I've had no problems with it at all. Get the 1920x1200 screen and you can comfortably mulitable. The only bad thing about the XPS is that the base of it will fry your nuts so I just leave mine on a desk all the time.

So what if it has a 13" screen. Have you seen one of these laptop ????

The DELL laptops you are talking about are nothing special , give it two three months and you will get a 3rd of the price that is advertised now.

If you want to watch a video or play a game on it why watch it on your laptop put it on the plasma tv if you have one.

The only reason you got a dell laptop is that you don't know where to get a cheap Toshiba , IBM or HP laptop (Dont say Dixon's) your buying from a third party meaning it will cost you more.

Also Dell laptops now really only come with Vista except of the latitude model which is the worst laptop in the world and one of the most expensive from dell.

You can get the Toshiba 300-13 for € 863 including vat + 2G Ram + XP Pro

Try any other model , IBM , HP not saying you have to go with the Toshiba 300-13 . Dont go to Dell ,1 year down the road you will be on the phone to some Dell representative in India trying to help you fix your laptop.

Dont waste your money . Spend it on POKER :)

I would have no qualms in recommending Dell, especially for those who may not be the best with the technical side of computing. For a long time, Dell were considered to be laughable but they have since improved in leaps and bounds! Their XPS models are some of the best performing and best value for money offerings available on the market today and given the size of Dell, they can take advantage of massive trade discounts. At best guess, they are the single largest builder of PCs and laptops in the world and can make very favourable deals with their suppliers which in turn leads to high quality and well specced machines. In fact, other companies (even some of the big brands) must resort to using poor quality components in order to remain competitive with Dell!

To the OP, I'd recommend you head to the Dell thread over at the Bargain Alerts forum to help get a better deal. The only thing you really need to look for are a 17" screen (more comfortable for multi-tabling) and to make sure you upgrade to a high capacity battery so you can continue to play long sessions without worrying about finding that power adapter! All other specs are pretty much irrelevant as almost every laptop on the market these days is capable of running anything poker related that you throw at it (multiple sites open, poker trackers, data miners etc). I think prices for 17" laptops would start at ~€400.

I know you say that you hate Vista but you're probably experiencing an issue isolated to your own system. I've been running Vista for a while now and despite initially finding it awkward, I've come to like it and haven't had any problems with it! If you don't like it, you can always put a copy of XP on it.

Because its for poker??? If you have to hook a proper monitor up to it youll need it all on a desk anyway so may aswell get a desktop.

Screen sizes isn't as important as res.
A 19" laptop with the same res as 17" is not much better, except they are slightly larger, can't fit more on.
I'd soone upgrade the res before the size.

Don't listen to bollox about grapics cards. You do not need a good graphics card to poker, the graphics on all poker clients, ivc PKR, are basic. A good card is needed for 3D lan games.

Good screen, and hot keys are more than enough

Not out of the box, but there's emulation software available but that could get messy if all you want to do is play poker!

Dells are fine imo but the XPS is overpriced when all you need is any half-decent laptop with best resolution you can get. If you want to play games then maybe an XPS will be worth it or better yet get me to build a desktop for you and save money.
