PS3 and controller problems

I'm having some issues with my PS3 today (it has been relatively inactive for a fortnight or so)

Basically, I was playing GTA4 for about an hour, and suddenly the game pauses and I get a message on the screen about connecting the controller.

The "1" LED was still lit on the controller at this stage. However, assuming that the console and controller had decided yet again to stop communicating with each other (it seems to do this from time to time), I connected up the USB lead. This just resulted in the 4 LED's constantly flashing (as it does when pairing with console) but no response from console.

So then I tried turning off the PS3 from the Standby button, but after 10 mins, the green LED was still flashing and hadn't gone into standby, so the only cure was to flick the switch at the back.

I turned the console back on again, and this time played FIFA08. After 2 matches, I was just about to start the third, when suddenly every player that I was to control started running in one direction to the bottom left of the screen. As opposition passed to each other, and I was to control the next nearest player of mine, he'd turn and run to bottom left! So yet again, console and controller had stopped communicating, and this time the controller was already using the USB lead, so bluetooth wasn't the cause. And yet again, I had to flick the switch at the back to make the unit go off properly.

Anyone ever experience these issues before? I was wondering that maybe it's the warm weather making teh console overheat but I doubt it. The console sits on the shelf alone with plenty of ventilation.

    Any help appreciated.

You can reset the controller to fix issues like this by pressing in the small reset button on the underneath of the controller beside L2.

Ah, thanks for that. I must try that later, if the problem recurs.

Just hope it's not the console itself that's faulty.

Happened to me with my Dualshock3 as well I just connected it with the usb lead and played around with and got it working. Don't know why it happened.

    Is very annoying though

Incidentally, the controller I was using was also a DualShock 3. However, the standard controller wouldn't pair either via bluetooth (I didn't try it on USB lead).

Strange though that the console won't power down like it should either.

ya, when first use, DO use the USB cable to connect your ps3 with your PC that's it

Have you updated to firmware 3.15 yet ? should fix the problem when you do.
