    hi,

been trying for ages to connect my macbook to a lexmark 4850 wireless printer, go through installation which goes well until the end when it tells me that " Your printer has not been added to the list in the Printer Setup Utility."

Now i have added the printer to my prefs using the ip address of the printer as given on the print out so printer is listed.

printer, printer utility will not work telling me " There is a problem communicating with the printer. Make sure the printer is powered on and connected to the computer. Delete or stop the job and try again."

have looked on line for help but no joy, any ideas?

Have you set up the printer to access your wireless network ?

Is your MacBook on the same network as the printer ? By that I mean if the printer has an ip address of 192.168.0.1 then your Mac book should have an ip address in the range 192.168.0.xxx where xxx is any number between 2 and 254.

I think you also need to join the printer to your wireless network and provide it with the WEP or WPA password that you have set on the access point.

How far have you gone with the setup ?

From Lexmark US website: Read from section headed Procedure: Infrastructure Installation and tell us where the installer fails.

    Ok,
i go straight through the set up, install program, set up printer, connect it to mac with usb, give password for router, it tells me i've been successful. i then get a message to add printer in printer set up utility, so add printer in prefs using the printers ip, but no joy it keeps on telling me to add the printer in the set up utility, i then try to print a test page, error message saying no communication with printer and when i try and open printer utility it doesn't find the printer???
i don't know what i'm doing wrong. now i have my mac set up with a static ip and use little snitch, could they be a problem?
i'm currently working long days so can't phone help line so any help would be great

Download IP Scanner (it's free) and see if the printers IP appears in the list.

I presume the printer works when connected via USB ?

According to Lexmark your printer is not yet compatible with Leopard but patches might be available !
