Nokia e51 email - how does it work?

The inbuilt email in the phone itself. I'm trying to work out exactly how it works. I'm using it to check my own domains POP3 account.

It downloads mails from the server and leaves a copy of the messages on it - all ok.
If I delete a mail off the server it seems to delete it off the phone - all ok... sometimes.

Sometimes mails end up on the phone that aren't on the server. Why?

Is it supposed to delete emails off the phone that aren't on the server?

    Thanks

Are you sure you arent using an imap set up? Once you delete an email from your server, it wont delete it from your phone.

If it does, then it is an imap set up.

I don't have IMAP setup that I know of. I've chosen POP3 throughout.

once or twice i seen the email client 'mess up'

like there might be new emails on the server but the phone wouldnt download them.

there are only 2 options for delete
delete from phone, leave on server
    delete from phone and server

try firmware upgrade. it might fix it

I've had a few Symbian phones now and I've always experienced the phone delete messages from the phone if gone from the server. I'm just very confused as to how this is all supposed to work.
