ok so we all know that is getting a bit messy at the moment theirs offers flying left right and center so i thought id put them together in one post.

if you want to add info such as data add ones ill edit it into the post.makes deciding which offer to take much easier:pac:

    Well its finally come people,

    "THE IRISH MOBILE PRICE WAR"

iv researched into what all the mobile networks are offering at the moment and heres what iv gathered ( i work for one of the mobile networks so hence the research)

these are for prepay only not BILL PAY

__Free texts at the moment are the number one seller ffor networks__

    METEOR

Free texts to ANY NETWORK or Free CALLS AND TEXTS to meteor customers

Calls 29c per minute to ANY NETWORK ANYTIME
Texts 11c any network free voicmail

    O2

Free texts to ANY NETWORK or Free calls and texts to your favorites 10 O2 friends

    texts 13c any network
    voicmail 15c per minute
    99c unlimited access to Internet

    tesco
Free calls, Texts, picture messages to other tesco Mobile's

    calls 20c to ANY network
    texts9c to ANY network

    free voicmail

    3(three)

YEt to be announced 20th August
WAIT AND SEE WHAT THEYLL OFFER UNREAL!

Free access to windows live messenger and free entertainment clips

*meteor,vodafone,tesco-subject to 20e top up- O2 30e top up for ten friends

so basically iv put this together to show you that the price war is happening in mobile land not just supermarkets!

IMAGINE are to enter the mobile network next year aswell!.

iv been on all networks but i want yee to rate them as you have experienced.(out of ten)

    customer care
    meteor ----
    three ----
    vodafone ---
    tesco ----
    02

    coverage
    meteor ----
    three ----
    vodafone ---
    tesco ---- (on 02 network)
    02

    quality of service

    meteor ----
    three ----
    vodafone ---
    tesco ----
    02

    DATA
    meteor ----
    three ----
    vodafone ---
    tesco ----
    02

Feel free to comment on this as i am doing research on how company's react to competition .

Overall all the networks are offering similar offers but some appear more attractive than others.

example minimun call charge 6c vodafone vs 3c meteor.

so if your willing to pay more for quality of service then stick with the obvious on the list

    smiley.gifsmiley.gif

added: 3(three) are currently the only network to offer mobile broadband to prepay customers on their 3g network.

    cost 25euro(30 days) 5euro(24 hours) 10euro(7 days)
    data allowance 10GB 250mb 2GB
    Speed
    3.6mbps download (Planned upgrade to
384kbps upload 7.4mbps later this year)

As a warning do 3.6mbps is the speed per cell sector.
e.g 2 users simultaneously downloading meaning each user only gets 1.8mbps
also adding in weather conditions and height of mast aswell as area it has to cover realistically each user will only get approx 1.4mbps

However, 1with over 55,000 subscribers at the moment th network is saturated and msot peeps are only getting speeds of 10kbps YES KBPS

2 everyone shares the same ip address meaning no rapidshare etc angry.gif

i literally got a 2 second glance at that was it.

but ya there there bascially drastically reducing the prices to other networks.

They also have a seperate internet add on 1 GB for €9.99 for 30 days.

I think they're the cheapest for just browsing without an add on too at 49c per MB.

as a person who has has a number with all networks I'm very surprised with the rating for Customer service. I don't work for any (I work for a bank) but my experience with Customer Service is:
Vodafone 5 (a long time on hold and patronizing cc)
O2 7 (Hold times can be long but staff usually quite knowledgable and courtious)
Meteor 4 ((conflicting info from cc reps each call often discoutious)

    I'm a billpay o2 customer currently.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 857 ✭✭✭whisht

    I would agree.
Didn't want to seem biased as I am also an O2 pay customer and also use ALL other networks, INCLUDING Tesco!!

O2 customer care is so far ahead of all other networks. One of the main reasons for this, or so I was told by an O2 cc agent one night.......... they are told to never end a call with a customer if the issue is not solved, or if there is not something constructive being done about the issue.

Worst customer care would have to be 3 as they never deviate from the script and seem to have no brain and after that, Meteor is also very poor

just saw the coverage thing now. Vodafone has the worst coverage of all the networks where I live, it doesn't have 100% Geographical Coverage, how can it get a 10???

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 857 ✭✭✭whisht

    That was my point
I just checked their website and practically half of Wicklow is not covered. I'm a long way from Wicklow, but that certainly doesn't warrant a 10!!!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 35,514 ✭✭✭✭efb

didn't bother with three (Script) and Tesco (never called their CC)

Yes and technically 3 have the best coverage and should be 10 instead of vodafone because they use vodafones 2g network and have much more 3G coverage that vodafone.

I would strongly agree with u regards to O2's customer care. I have dealt with all networks bar tesco and O2 is miles ahead in front of the competition. Things like their customer forum and their bebo page show that they are serious about looking after their customers, becuase really if you don't evn have to think about it..... The networks are nothing without customers regardless of how fast their mobile broadband is and how much it costs to send a text!

All the money they make from charging for voice mail is probably paying for the extra customer service. Rediculous this day and age to charge for that. Eircell didn't even charge for it!

There's no prizes for guessing which network your on:rolleyes:

I don't think it's fair to compare 3's customer care to the likes of Meteor, Vodafone and 02...

3 customers are a lot more technically savvy so there problems are a lot more complex than the average vodafone technician has to deal with, 3 Offer, Mobile Internet, TV, Video Calling, Live Gambling, Skype, Microsoft Messanges, Orb, Mobi Cast and You Tube to name but a few services, none of the other networks have to support such a large and complex portfolio of products...maybe 3 can't fix every problem straight away but they do off a lot more support for a lot more products....try telling the Vodafone customer care agent your Skype isn't working and see how far you get:D

So Three win hands down for customer service!! If you like to do more than talk or text!!!

Three also wins for coverage (90% population coverage with 3G service)

Price wise, there's only a €10 minimum top up required to get free calls and texts to other 3 users, free msn, free content through planet 3, 5cent picture or video texts, free voicemail, no minimum call charge and no complex top up offers, you top up by €10 and they'll give you €10, couldn't be simpler....

So in my book three currently offer the best all round package to Irish customers, even before there new price plans are announced....There current price plans are still very competitive.....If you only top up by €10pm 3 are still the chepest all round package, your €10 will go a lot further.....

Plans where the main value is in calls/text to the same network aren't much use if most of your calls aren't to that network. Unless they also have cheap calls to the other networks.

I didn't even know you get free calls and texts to other 3 users. Would help if I knew any!

If you top up by any more than €10 they give you extra free credit. Complicated! ;p

I would also like to add my observance of bias on the whole customer care thing, indeed on the whole a bias towards red. Also Meteor have a far more extensive network than 3 do. They certainly have more base stations & good quality ones at that. That alone would put them ahead in my books. Never mind that fact the data network would appear to be suffering (attested by the mega thread in this particular forum).

I don't know how you rated them on coverage, maybe you're the same guy who wrote one of the very first comparison articles in the Irish Times between Eircell & ESAT Digifone?
He basically had two handsets at his desk, made a phone call from each & deduced that both had equally good coverage! :p:p:p

Might I add also noted that there is a low post count for OP.

Despite 3's broadband not working for anyone, it works perfectly fine for me and a few others I know. In my experience it's no worse than Vodafone's 3G broadband. I know how the technology work so I don't expect 10ms pings and 3.6Mbps speeds. I guess it's largely cell dependent.

Their customer service is ****, though, but I have sensed an improvement of late. Perhaps this is related to 3 doing customer surveys on customer service these days.

Are there any exciting developments in post-pay land?

I'm on the relax 950 which is working out well....no huge bills so far....seems to cover everthing, talking, texting and internet....

Hard to see what's left in the bill pay market....free video calls??

ok so i think i should change my psot at the top...so that everyone can rate themselves on a number of issues with differnet networks.

i DO NOT work for the red devils i can assure you..

i rated custoer care out of ten becasue they see to know what there talking about. also i a on about prepay cust care eg not a business billpay cust line.

as regards coverage i still find them best out of all...02 can be very bad indoors...they seem to have extended their cells coverage further in soe parts.. but this is jsut my pciky observation.

so iv changed the post to somthing more constructive then MY OWN OPINION
    :D
    regards,
