Canon international warrenties

I'm going to be buying a canon 30d from the states. It's a hell of a lot cheaper, even if I do get clobbered for VAT. But I was wondering if anyone knows anything about the warrenty? Most of the places I've looked say that the camera comes with a US warrenty. Does this mean that I'm screwed if anything goes wrong?

It means that you send it back to the place you bought it from if you want it repaired under warranty.
