They're not that easy to come by, Target rifles no real problem, but crossover rifles are much harder to find in LH.

'It wasn't me' is also a lefty and he should be along at some stage to offer his advice.

Well, depends what sort of targets you mean, informal sort of thing, or do you intend to do competitive "Olympic" style shooting? If the latter, only a dedicated rifle will do, but if you're leaning towards the sporting rifle side of things (silhouettes, rabbits, bit of informal paper, anything other than the ISSF type stuff), you could get something pretty nice to do everything. Anschutz make a few nice lefty sporters, as do Savage and CZ. All of these are very accurate and very nice guns.

The first thing to do really is to figure out what sort of thing you want to do and your budget. You can find something worthwhile with just about any budget, but what you can spend will determine what you can get.

I've seen a good few lefty CZ's in .17HMR as well, so seems they may be expanding a little, which is good.

What sort of stuff are you looking to do? Is it mostly sporting rifle or target rifle? Benchrest? Prone? Silhouettes?

I'm a leftie , and unless you need something very special, a right hand will do you fine. I had a Brno (CZ) .22 for years and could fire it pretty well either prone from a single point sling or standing. You just need to get used to it.

The downside is that for delicate repeat shooting, especially with a sling, having to work the bolt 'with the wrong hand' can pull your body out of position. This won't matter too much unless you start getting really serious about your shooting. If you do, then get an anshultz left hander as suggested.

Keep in mind also that if you go to trade in or sell the gun later you will find it easier to get rid of a right handed than a leftie. You will more than likely end up doing this as you get more into shooting !

With regard to scopes, the choice is deafening. However unlike a rifle, which you WILL trade-in for another one, you can move a good scope onto every new purchase you make. A scope can therefore be for life if you buy the right one(s).

I have 2 scopes but I've owned 3 others of which only one of those was any good. The rule with scopes is really to spend as much as you can initially. As they say, pay dear and you only cry once ! If you get rid of the rifle or buy a better one, you can use your existing scope.

Spend what you can afford. (A good gauge is more than the cost of the rifle). Can't go wrong with the big brand names like Leupold, Schmidt & Bender, Nightforce etc. However, if you'd rather save some cash then you wil find something cheaper and good enough for .22 but as I say, you'll be crying again, in particular if you change for a larger calibre and longer distances.

Don't get carried away with huge magnification, you won't need it for hunting or for .22 at 50-100m.
