Well got to see The Dark Knight in Screen 1 this morning in Vue Liffey Valley and was very disappointed with the quality of the picture I was seeing some scenes where out of focus and there was a lot of marks on the Negative, to me it looked nearly as bad as some of those Camcorder copies that u see on the net. I would have expected that Vue would have at least made sure they had the latest equipment in their two main cinemas, anyway at least I'll be getting the Blu-Ray version before Christmas, but I have to say that it ruined my enjoyment of the film it was that bad.
Is their any cinema's in Dublin have the latest in Digital projectors? Maybe the Savoy?

I saw it there Thursday night and didn't notice any problems so I don't know what's happened since:confused:

Sure what do you expect from Vue ?

I was actually at Screen1 last night, and was disgusted by what I saw on up on the screen............out-of-focus the entire film, wasn't even properly lit giving the impression of a poorly calibrated image akin to some ropey XVID etc etc.................it was like DVD quality blown up on-screen compared to the Prologue on the Batman Begins BD ..
Sure, straight after the viewing last night, we stuck on the prologue to compare with what we had been subjected to for the previous couple of hours.......night and day to say the least..
Even in comparison to the preview showing I was at earlier in the week in Screen9 (with its canvas smudge) it was very, very poor..
Straight from the first few shots I could see that it was off, but it never picked up during the entire running time and, of course, a manager was nowhere to be seen during or after the film ended..

Like I said, Screen9 during the preview was decent enough (although they still had issues.....focus problems during the bank heist, and intermittent purple flashing), but what was on display last night was awful with zero quality control on show..
Exactly what I've come to expect from Vue. I cannot even remember the last time they didn't feck up a showing in some way (whether its picture or sound)...
They have been on the end of more than one bollocking from members of my family over the last couple years (ROTK, Troy, Superman Returns all spring to mind)......and its unfortunate that at times, I've had to be subjected, for various reasons, to going back..

Best advice is to complain (when you can find a manager) and give them both barrels (politely of course), but expect to be talked down to as if they're the only ones qualified to talk about the AV quality which the qualify by telling you stories about how they have the print checked, and then checked every 15mins during a show for QC reasons, only recently upgraded the sound systems etc etc etc and various other lies..

Unfortunately they're not the only cinema in Dublin whose quality has significantly dropped over the last 5 years and the basic truth is that with some investment, a decent home cinema setup is always going to provide you with a more satisfactory viewing if a little delayed..

Glad someone agrees maybe our issue is like you I watch the Imax prologue on the Batman Begins BD, so I was disgusted with the quality of the negative, maybe viewers who are now used to High Def viewing at home are more critical of a movie we see in the cinema, I actually hope that one day on big movie releases we will be able to buy a high def stream to our home, cinema's need to take this serious and improve the quality of their screens and equipment.

On the subject of Vue, I seem to remember when under the ownership of Ster Century that they had better projection equipment and never had a complaint like I have now with Vue.
So is there any decent cinemas in Dublin who actually take quality control and customer satisfaction seriously? I doubt it!
