name of wireless isp for athenry

hi i live 15 mins from galway city + 5 miles from athenry town

our local telephone exchange is not broadband enabled + the quality of the line is poor anyways - at best i can download at 3 kb/s on this dial up connection.

my nextdoor neighbour claims to have wireless internet, but my father didn't catch the name of the crowd he's with... i've been waiting weeks to hear this name, but my father hasn't spoken to him since he told me about the convo they had.

question 1) does anyone happen to know this mystery isp that offers wireless internet on the outskirts of the athenry region? or at least a list of wireless isps that accurately state their coverage.

question 2) what kinda latency can i be expecting for gaming? right now i get 300 ms delay which is absolutely fine. if wireless was 1000 ms or higher it would be a bit of a pain but i guess i can just pay the 1 cent per minute with some random dial up isp whenever i feel like playin starcraft since that's all i play really.

    thx in advance

Could it be Airwire? Ask marlow about that:d or it could be westnet.

Wireless is generally comparable in terms of ping to DSL.

probably the Kiltulla exchange EAST of Athenry then , if its north of Athenry stop reading

    1. Greater Athenry ( its a big area) has a Group Broadband Scheme . This scheme also has a discussion forum which may contain contact details for the GBS :D

    2. Lightnet claim they cover parts of Kiltulla albeit maybe the Loughrea / Bullaun end of it .
