Career Change to do Primary PGCE

    Hi all,

I am thinking of giving up my job as an Engineer with a Pharmaceutical Company in order to do Primary School teaching. The PGCE applications are in "clearing" at the moment on the GTTR website but hopefully i can get on one of them. I have a degree in Engineering and feel that teaching is right for me. To be involved with the kids would be great.

Recently i did the KNEX engineering challenge in the local national school and loved it. My partner is a national schools teacher also and tells me to go for it.

Do you think i will be able to get onto a PGCE course this year (Sept 08) or next (Sept 09)?

Does being male have an infleuence on selection?

Would i get work teaching back in Ireland in national schools once i get PGCE?

This is a big step for me but i feel that its the right one.

    Best Regards,

    Gilroy
