What's your preference for a tee-time? I find that i play better when i tee off really early. Not really sure why but i just seem to be more relaxed and don't worry about the game so much. Maybe cos i don't have as much time to think about it beforehand.

I also really like playing late in the evening. A nice calm, warm night with the sunsetting is great for golf. Trouble is the course is usually at its worst then condition-wise.

I'm sure i'm not alone here, but ever noticed that when the alarm clock goes at half 6 for work and you struggle to get up, but then when it does the same on a saturday or sunday for golf... you're lying there waiting to get up?!

Depends really Graeme, if I've been out the night before then obviously enough the later the better, otherwise I like to play between 9 and 11.
I seldom play any earlier unless there is a match on in Croke Park, which ALWAYS seems to coincide with our medals

Don't really notice any difference in performance between morning and afternoon, I play well any time of day :p

Depends on work, usually a 9/10 start is perfect at the weekend. Youre right in saying that your waiting all morning to go!! Have yet to play after 6pm, usually just hit the driving range, tis hard to get home and get out to the golf club. Driving range is just around the corner for me...

And obviously the twighlight games are very seasonal and weather dependant.. Only one critism for early morning games is that after a hot evening the course can be full of moisture, and it can be hard to play some greens as it slows the roll of the ball...

I like both but for competitive play it's early all the way for me. My course is right by the sea and the conditions are usually more benign (i.e. it's not blowing a gale like at 14:00) first thing. Course is in better nick and it moves along very quickly in the morning, ~3:15 for 18 in groups of 4. Plus you're finished about 10:30 and can get on with the rest of the day then. Plus it keeps me off the beer the night before. All my best rounds have been very early in the morning.

it has to be the evening, on saturday/sunday evening I can walk around like lord of the manor, play 2 or more balls and take time to manage course properly

Love playing 9 holes on a summers evening but for competition I always play in the mornings... can't beat the experience of a bright morning, following the mowers about, greens looking pristine, bit of dew on the aprons.
A distraction about playing later in the day is you may be aware of a score already in. If someone has a 66 and you're off to a slow start, it can take from the enjoyment of the day. Once in a while it's nice to go out late, but more in a fourball or something social.

I've always preferred mornings,i think alot comes down to the fact i'm fresh and always seem to play a tad better,i'm not 100% certain but i always seem to struggle somewhat playing in the evenings.

Yesterday evening I played and my buddy and myself were theonly two on the course. The rain had threaten all evening but we went for it, played 12 holes at a slow pace playing 2 balls in each. You cant beat a relaxing couple of holes on a beautful summers evening. Scored 20 odd points for the twelve, was delighted!
