    Hi folks.

Had 2GB RAM there until this morning, bought another gig making 3x1GB. Third on, I presume, will make no difference until I add the fourth? (Four slots, 3 taken)...

Also, I presume that the performance increase on 4GB with two CL5's and two CL4's in the mix will be better than only having two CL4's?

RAM concerned is all DDR2-800-PC6400. Mobo is Asus P5N-32E.

    Cheers :)

I'm not sure what you're asking here exactly.

Generally yes but it depends on whether you use all 3gb's or not and what applications etc. ie games would be more sensitive to speed than some other applications.

FYI: You probaby (unless your running a 64bit OS) won't see the full advantage of another 1gb of ram.

Sorry, could have been a little clearer. What I mean is, as the 3rd stick isn't curently paired with another, do I need to add the 4th to see the benefit of the 3rd?

nope , it will run quite happily without its brother though not at the optimum speed (how much speed you loosing depends on a numebr of different factors).

You can check the BIOS or right click my computer in windows (if thats what your using) to ensure that it's being picked up.

Ah cool, I ahd seen it in my computer all right (and tbh thought it was working a bit from load speeds) but the the crucial scanner told me they 'needed to be paired' to work.

    Stupid crucial I say ...

    Cheers :)

On a similar vein, sorry to sdonn_1 for high-jacking your thread. I currently have 2Gb of this https://www.komplett.ie/k/ki.aspx?sku=324460. My Motherboard can take upto 1333Mhz (https://www.komplett.ie/k/ki.aspx?sku=339337) It supports DDR2 and DDR3

What if I was to get 3Gb of this https://www.komplett.ie/k/ki.aspx?sku=334571. Would I see any performance. I would be using Autocad etc....along with usual MS Office and probably a few other porgrams open too

Or should I take the dive ito DDR3
