Hi, Has anyone brought a Samsung 5 series, if so any thoughts, happy? I thought it looked great in shop although i was disapointed to hear that it is not 100hz which after reading all the varies posts i feel i should look out for as i will be watching sports on it.
I will not be running any HD systems of it this year or next although i believe it is capable for 'future proofing'. Will be using standard NTL digital.
Asking price was €1100 with an extra €100 for the 6 series

    Any thoughts would be great

There was a 100hz version of the 5 series as well, the LE40F96 I think, but very few people found the 100hz feature worthwhile, and I believe most turned it off.

They're fantastic TVs and work great with NTL digital, but if you do go for one make sure you check avforums.com for the best settings for it, the picture can be terrible out of the box.

€1100 sounds quite expensive for the 5 series, iirc the 6 series was listed on the bargain alerts forum not too long ago for under €1000, possibly from richersounds.ie.

Oh and if you're main concern is watching sports in SD, most people will probably recommend you look at panasonic plasmas, I think the 42" HD Ready models are running about €1200 to €1300. (and note that because you will be using an ntl digital decoder you should be able to go for the english models which are cheaper)

Should be able to pick 1 up cheaper than that I reckon, and BuyingorSelling that's good advice from stevenmu.
