Was rehearsing in a place in town last night,( first time there, on a recommendation) which shall remain nameless, guitar amp kept cutting out, drum kit was in tatters and PA speakers were located in the wrong part of the room to be any use. I couldn't find the guy who let us in, for over an hour. Couldn't change room as they were full. Blah blah blah...

How come there's nowhere that ticks all the boxes? Good gear, nice room, good acoustics, good price, decent staff. I know of places that have one or 2 at best, but I want all five!
    Is there anywhere?
How are these crap places full anyway!

Blackpitts is the bst one in town. Loop is a ****hole, very unhelpful staff and some of the rooms are terrible. They really dont bother with getting new/decent gear and you gotta pay 75 euro a rehearsal even though they are in the same building as Music Tech.

Go to Blackpitts, friendly staff and decent gear and if you have any problems then they will do all they can to help.

    A+++ for Backpitts

Not sure if I should name it! Mods?
Have been to rehearsal rooms, is ok but still don't tick all the boxes.
Had monitor wedges instead of speakers which I didn't like and the acoustics in the room weren't great so overall sound isnt the best. Gear was average. Loop (which tics one or two of the boxes) has one good thing going for it, and thats treated rooms.

The rooms are nice and "dry" and conducive to a good jam.
Remember Underground anyone? Thats how bad it is when you stick a band in a room with just 4 plastered walls. Absolute shi*e.

I suppose its hard to cater for everyones taste when it comes to gear though.

You answered your own question here. They dont tick all the boxes because people are prepared to pay through the nose for substandard places. They dont need to tick all the boxes when they can fill the rooms anyway. It's up to us to complain and threaten to boycott them if they dont improve. Other wise things will never change.

You have a point there rigby. I suppose we have to put up with it in light of not having our own place to rehearse and there being no alternative.
Where do you go? Is it the gear or the room that brings you there?

I suppose the owners of the rehearsal rooms know that they have us by the **lls because it's hard to find an alternative and our homes or garages are out because of noise. The band I'm in have our own rehearsal room in the city centre. We have it one day a week (we share with an other band ). While it's not the Hilton, :D its clean and tidy because it's in our own interest to keep it that way. We can also store our own gear there, so no problems with sub par amps ect. We pay rent once a month which works out at just a little more than a rehearsal room. The more people there is in the band the less the cost obviously.

We found this room here on this forum. My advice is to keep an eye out here (or better still post a thread looking for one ).

Best of luck in your quest. :)

Judging by the link, that studio looks good alright. Reasonable price too.

What do people think about having cameras in the rooms and limiters hardwired to stay on on all amps?

The owners of the rehearsal rooms should get them and the equipment up to an acceptable standard. They could then get people to pay a deposit of say 10 or 20 ( maybe more depending on the equipment ) euro to be returned after an inspection to see if the room is clean and tidy and the equipment is in order ( and present !! ). It's not rocket science, all it takes is a little thought for others from both sides.

To Eoin5 : While I'd prefer not to have cameras and limiters, in some cases ( and places ) they are probably necessary, though a hefty deposit might make them obsolete.
