    Hi There,

I am starting the foundations on my self build next week. Im just wondering if I can add another 2 meters to the length of the house even though I haven't received planning permission for this change.

    Thanks

If you want to add that much on and you haven't yet got planning through I would suggest that you get revised plans in immediately to your local council.

You will be in breach of your PP if you add to the length at construction stage without prior authorisation from the council.

2m is quite a substantial addition and will add extra to the cost of the build aswell. Why do you now want 2M you didnt see the need for at design stage?
If you intend to make changes like this throughout the build then you are making life hard for yourself

Thanks for the comments - I got the site marked out today as per the drawings. After discussions with the Architect I will have to make changes to one of the internal walls to accommodate a bigger utility room

I dont know if its the same in the rest of the country but around here one of the main benifits of raft foundations is that clients can't see the little bit of mud left in the middle of a room when using strip foundations, judge it against a very nice big sky decide its way too small and 1 2 3 4 whatever m's to the house requireing retention more cost etc etc, and while generally I always tell people that strips are easier it makes my life easier when they go for rafts and can't misjudge things until its too late!! ie built!!!:D

Maybe I've had one too many this evening but I dont understand the point you are trying to make.

In any event I dont think its relevant to the OP's question which was
Im just wondering if I can add another 2 meters to the length of the house even though I haven't received planning permission for this change.
    .

Just a reminder to anyone else who is not aware: we do not allow any discussion on the flaunting of planning regulations.

The OP has been given the answer so I dont see any need need to leave this thread open. Locked.
