Tá na doirse beaga le 'Uisce' scriofa orthu ag imeacht ó sráideanna Bhaile Átha Cliaith, agus rudaí nua ag teacht ina n-áit le 'WATER. (comhlacht éigin) WINCHESTER' scriofa orthu. Monuair...

Posting in English in case my Irish is too impenetrable...

All around Rathgar and Kenilworth, the old 'Uisce' covers on the water mains are disappearing, to be replaced by black disks that say 'WATER...(the name of some company), WINCHESTER'.

It seems a pity that the Corpo should have discarded the Irish language on the mains covers.

Nice page about road sign horrors here, by the way:

and Archiseek forum on the Uisce covers - making the point that any vandal can tap into your (soon to be metered) water through the new plastic covers, while the beautiful old ones were strong iron doors with a special key needed to open them:

Más amhlaidh an scéal, ba cheart gearán oifigiúil a dhéanamh leis an Choimisinéir Teanga agus na húdaráis áitiúla.

Official complaints should definitely be made to the Coimisinéir Teanga and the local authorities.

Away you go then, rgcuan, and make one.

It makes me really sad that the Corpo should ditch our language like this, but I'm not much of an official-complainer.

Faraor níl comharthaíocht mar seo clúdaithe ag an Acht.
