Training Tips

Was just thinking about it last night but a good idea might be a thread where people post links or ideas about training people can do on their own time. Obviously training as a team is very important but taking some time to train on your own to keep fitness good can't help. So any ideas post em here. I'll start with two drills.

    Stamina Drill:

    5 mins jog.

    Stretch

Sprint 3/4 speed length of football pitch. Rest (kick football) 30 secs. Repeat 4 more times.

2 and half minutes recovery (kick football/light jog/pacing)

    Repeat above exercise.

5 min jog warm down (if you're not doing more exercise)

Eventually you can build up to sprinting full pace and cut the recovery between sprints down to 20 seconds. Also, you're going to be ****ed after doing this no matter how fit you are. So don't plan a heavy session after this or before.

    Short Sprint Drill:

You need two people to do this. One to sprint and one to call. Then reverse. This exercise helps increase your reaction to having to sprint suddenly over a short distance.

You can use cones or just guesstimate distances here.

The sprinter stands on one side of the pitch with the caller behind. The caller will (without warning) either call "left" "right" or "straight". When the sprinter hears the call he sprints full pace for ten yards and then stops. (left = go diagonally left, etc). The caller shouts again and repeats until you reach the far side of the pitch. Then you can switch positions.

This drill increases your stamina over short distances but it also introduces a natural element of football, ie you dont know when or where you'll have to sprint to.

Anyway, anyone who has anything interesting to throw in here do so. I'm always looking to pick up some new training ideas.
