    Hi all,

We are thinking about setting up a NAS drive in work to hold files/doc's for sharing..

We want it so once the files are there only the admin (me) can delete them. people can download them read them like normal but they are not allow delete them. Also they will be allowed upload there own files to there own folders but not to someone elses folder... Is this possible.. (am i making sense lol)

Admin = be able to upload/download/delete all content
user= download from all folders but only upload to there own folder.

Also just to add,,, Am i right in thinking they will be able to access this NAS drive from home and download files.. and upload to there own folders?...

The boss has asked me to find out this as some people (including himself) wants to be able to work from home and some files.

    any help would be great,

Give the Admin Read, write and modify privileges over the entire drive.

Give each user a folder. Give everyone Read access to the entire drive and all subdirectories. Give each user write access to their own individual folders.

Is this done via windows or does the NAS box actually let you set up user accounts?

The NAS box. Usually has a web interface of some sort. Some are a lot better than others. If you've an old box lying around, throw FreeNAS on it. It runs well on older machines as there's no GUI, just a web interface for management.

god the one i have is crap.. I got he new Western digital 500gb Mybook..

comes with software called mionet,,, not easy to use... crashed my PC 3 or 4 times... kept getting blue screens and then shut down.. so i had to uninstall it.. But i didnt really want to use it in any way

I kept getting this error saying my connection settings where wrong.. I followed there steps one by one but it still didnt work.. really dont like it.

Is there any other way to use the nas drive ? with an easy interface?

I don't think you will ever get what you want with that NAS box. You kinda cheaped out and bought a home system rather then something that could be used in a work environment.
