I've just deposited $50 over at FullTilt and was wondering the best method of building that money.

Should I play 5 $10 tourneys? or grind away at .5c/10.c NLHE.

I once got €0 upto €7 on ppp by playing s'n'g.

    Cheers lads.

play $2 Sit N go's if you are serious about starting off
you have $50 so rule of thumb would be >20 BI's

To practice proper BR management :D I'd say go $2 SNG route, then if you want to play cash games start grinding it out at 10NL when you reach ~$200. With a decent winrate it won't take ya long to move up through the levels...

I would say that you should not play 5 $10 tourneys as the chances are you will just go broke . . . maybe not - but it's likely. Even if you cash in one or two if your game is quite good, you would need to win one to add to your bankroll significantly. These games have a high variance and thus you need to be adequatly rolled. There's a good chance you'll just play 5, lose (either through lack of skill or bad luck) and then be broke. . . .

As Deadparrot says , 25 x $2 would be more advisable.
Or, I think grinding away at 0.5c/.10c would be better. If you are able to take it seriously and play your best game at those stakes then you will clean up as most people at that level are just donking their money away.

I'll link another thread that I started a few months ago about how to start your BR off and I got some excellent responses at the time from people here.

When is being pretty optimistic. There is a decent chance you will lose it all if you play 10nl, don't play it unless you don't mind depositing more money. You are probably better of playng 50c/$1 SnG or .01/.02. Just think if you built it from there. You can say you played every level!

I've played every level...unfortunately in no paticular order!!

    The story so far:

    The initial $50.

    I'm going to stick to the advice I've been hearing, I played a $2, 9seat s'n'g finished 1st for $9: ($57)

    Then I played 50 hands of .5/.10c pot limitHE with $2....cashed out $4.50: ($59.50)

I might keep these limits untill I hit $100 then start $4 s'ng and .25/.50c PLHE

More tips and advice please: -Beag iasc-

lol you've done the exact opposite of sticking to the advice you were given.

Playing 5c/10c with $50 is pretty bad. Playing 25c/50c with $100 would be much much worse though.

You wanted opinions and now your getting them. The simple fact is you have a pretty good chance of losing your roll is you keep going the way you are.

    Nah still on $59 :(

I asked before for advice and I got death but some good comes when Dev makes a comment.

I can be patient and grind away whatever stakes you tell me to..... 5c/10c are lowest on FullTilt

And whats the problem with $2 s'n'g with my online "BR"?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,881 ✭✭✭bohsman

Keep playing the $2, dont touch the 5c/10c till you hit $150 at the very least. Im the last person to be giving advice on br management but if you dont want to reload its the only way to go.

    U think thats sick
My first week of online poker I deposited 10$ and ran it up to 1500$ only to lose it all multitablin 5$/10$ with 750$ out on each table
Fortunately that was the toughest lesson i had to learn and now stick by the "nothing over 5%" rule

At that time the only thing I had played was 5 euro home games and thought this poker thing was easy lol:D
Fortunately I am now successfully grinding 50nl

Great to hear man ;) When i first started i had no bankroll managment either. I suppose we all need to learn from these mistakes.

It was a very expensive lesson but a valuble one. If you dont learn proper BR management your going keepto getting that torturous sinking feeling of blowing your whole BR in 1hr
Unfortunately I had to switch sites cus I froze my account on stars when that happened so I would refrain from going on further tilt

Took a month to clear my head and of course join 2plus2 and other helpul sites and have been practising good BR management ever since

I feel like I've been targeted.

    Flopping set over set,

Flopping trips against a flopped house,

Aces cracked by QT 'cos der suited'

All in three different sng's but thanks to some BR manegement I only droped $10 and still have $45 left.

    Q. At what levels do people actualy stop playing stupid poker?

I'd last longer at a table of average players than superfish,
what buy-ins have average players where you can have a good game of poker...I haven't found one yet.

That works for me in large FO but in a sit'n'go they keep getting lucky.

I'm sure it will level out soon.

    Variance!

Just grind, Work out your best strategy and approach to these SnG and more often than not you should win.

I see where you're coming from and think there might be some truth to this. I started a thread on it recently. Check it out:

I find that the $20 SNGs are ok. But don't try them until you're rolled for them.

Thanks for the advice I see what you mean about variance.

At the moment I've played 5x$2 s'ng with 2 first places for $18 total and 3 "variance" results i.e aces getting cracked by QT so I'm still up!

If I play live in town I'd play $30-$50 tournys with cashes so thats ok but online....I'll need to move up levels soon or risk a fist shaped hole through my laptop.

i started playin about 2 months ago now at nl2 on stars with a 30$ roll...
I nutpeddled my way to nl10, and althought I wouldnt advise it as you basically have to unlearn every habit you learned from the nutpeddle ways, at nl2 its pretty profitable, but if you have more money you can put on like and extra 150$ i'd say jump to nl10.. micro micros like nl2+nl5 is retarded..

.. attatchment is my first 13 days at nl2.. :]
